De Vliergeit is a charming, 10-person holiday home located in the Belgian village of Vliermaal. Alongside being artistically decorated, with a unique appearance both inside and out, the holiday home is fully equipped and boasts a lovely outdoor area.
The story of the home
Bart and Kirsten instantly fell in love when they spotted the unique white house in 2015, located 300 metres from their own home. They were immediately taken by the building’s charming character and gorgeous, sunny location. Since the couple had always dreamed of owning a holiday home, they didn’t hesitate for a second when the white house was put up for sale. However, once the formal paperwork was all done, they found that the house was in such a sorry state of repair that everything needed to be renovated. So, Bart and Kirsten spent six months painstakingly redoing the house and transforming it into a unique holiday home. They have named their holiday home after the little ‘geit’ (Dutch for ‘goat’) that was born in their garden and which they reared by bottle feeding.
Let's take a look inside
De Vliergeit is creatively decorated with an eye for luxury and comfort. Once you enter the house, you will already notice this creativity in the old steel boxes that have been transformed into a stylish storage space for coats, hiking shoes and suitcases. When you walk through, you will enter the living space, which is a beautiful mix of vintage and art with a modern touch. Bart has been an art collector for a long time and has now finally found a space to display his finds. The sitting area invites you to read a good book, watch TV or have some drinks with friends. Thanks to the insulation, the space is cool in summer and warm in winter. You can turn on the gas fire for extra warmth and atmosphere.
If you continue to the back of the holiday home, you will find yourself in the dining room. The large, 10-person table with old classroom chairs is perfect for dining together. The open-plan kitchen – fully equipped with 5-ring gas hob, oven, microwave, large fridge-freezer, a wide range of crockery, and dishwasher – is the ideal place to prepare some delicious food. On the ground floor you will also find a toilet, a double bedroom, and a bathroom with rain shower and washbasin. The staircase – equipped with intelligent lighting – leads to the first floor, which has two double bedrooms and one quadruple bedroom. The bedrooms have their own washbasins and are decorated with unique pieces of art. On the landing is a separate toilet and a second, very spacious bathroom with rain shower and washbasin.
Outdoor space
From the kitchen and the dining room you have access to the lovely outdoor area, which includes a covered terrace, sun terrace and garden. The south-facing garden usually has no lack of sunshine. Relax in one of the sun loungers or make use of the barbecue. For the children there is a trampoline, a small jumping castle and a variety of games. So there is plenty to do for everyone. However, we also recommend making some trips in the beautiful area! Go for a walk in the hilly fruit tree region or experience culture in the nearby cities of Tongeren, Hasselt and Maastricht.
