‘Koningshof de Klaproos’ is an attractive, 20-person holiday home located on the edge of Montfort in the Rozendaal nature reserve. Stretching between Roermond and Maastricht, this gorgeous nature reserve has been under the protection of the ‘Stichting het Limburgs Landschap’ – a foundation that protects Limburg’s natural heritage and monuments – since 1970. The foundation also acquired a couple of centuries-old farmsteads in this nature reserve, including the ‘Koningshof’ farmhouse. In 2013, ‘De Koningshof’ was completely restored and converted into two holiday homes: ‘Koningshof de Klaproos’ and ‘Koningshof de Korenbloem’. These holiday homes offer comfort, space, and tranquillity.
Origin of the name ‘Koningshof de Klaproos’
The farmhouse is called ‘Koningshof’ (king’s court) because the former inhabitants of this farmstead were always protected by the king, who lived in the nearby 13th-century Kasteel Montfort (Montfort castle). The impressive castle ruins of Kasteel Montfort are open to visitors. The name ‘Klaproos’ (poppy) was chosen because the holiday home is surrounded by colourful plants and flowers, especially poppies, from May to July.
Let’s take a look inside
You enter into a small hall that leads to the large, light living area. You’ll spot the poppy theme in lots of places. For example, this bright red flower is printed on the curtains and also adds plenty of colour in various vases. The sitting area has been attractively furnished and has leather sofas and armchairs. From this sitting area you can walk through to the dining room, which has two wooden dining tables and a wood-burning stove. This means you can enjoy a crackling fire while you all sit around the table together. The only thing that’s missing is a delicious meal. This can be prepared in the well-equipped, open kitchen with burgundy red wall tiles and a large kitchen island. The kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, 5-burner ceramic hob, oven, microwave, freezer, coffee machine, kettle and two fridges. While cooking, you have a fantastic view over the meadows and the orchard.
There are eight bedrooms and seven bathrooms, spread over the ground floor and first floor. The wooden floors and clay-coloured walls create a warm and welcoming feel in each of the bedrooms, all of which have luxury single box-spring beds. On the ground floor are two en-suite bedrooms with walk-in shower, washbasin, and toilet. The staircase to the right of the hall leads to the next two bedrooms, which share a bathroom with shower, washbasin, and toilet. The staircase to the left of the hall leads to the last four bedrooms, all of which have en-suite bathrooms with walk-in rain shower, washbasin, and toilet. Two of these bathrooms have a unique, cylindrical shower cabin with all-over mosaic tiles.
Outdoor space
The garden doors in the living area lead onto the large private garden and terrace, both of which are south-west facing and offer a spectacular view of the surrounding fields and orchards. With no other buildings in the vicinity, you can truly enjoy nature and spending time with each other in peace and quiet. There is plenty of room for children to play, as well as a swing set and a covered table tennis table (both shared with guests of ‘de Korenbloem’ holiday home).
