This holiday home is located in Papenhoven, a gem of a village on the border of South Limburg. Once you enter the village, you will quickly see this impressive holiday home along the road. This beautiful, listed house has a great deal of allure. And with its gorgeous, enclosed garden with countless flowers and birds, it couldn’t be more idyllic! The holiday home is located in the side wing of this national monument from 1848, which is lived in by the homeowners Theo and Hannie. They both look forward to welcoming you to ‘Paap1848, Hof op het zuiden’.
Inside
Once you have parked your car, walk through the car park towards the cosy garden to the side of the property in order to enter the holiday home. The hall leads onto the cosy sitting area, which provides direct access to the beautiful sun room surrounded by an ancient wall and set in spacious, peaceful gardens. A shallow step from the sitting area leads to the modern, fully equipped kitchen with a 4-burner induction hob, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, toaster, kettle, and a Nespresso coffee machine.
The staircase in the kitchen leads onto the first floor with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. One of the bedrooms is a spacious box bed! The bedroom at the back of the house has a beautiful view of the gardens. This bedroom at the front has an en-suite with shower and bath.
Outside
This holiday home offers two places where you can sit outside: have a delicious meal at the side of the house or enjoy the sunshine in the sheltered sun room. Both gardens have a romantic look and feel and are the perfect places to enjoy the birdsong or watch the squirrels darting about. The original pizza oven and other enclosed gardens are available for use upon request.
Surroundings
Papenhoven is part of the ‘Rivierpark Maasvallei’ nature park, which has various walking and cycling routes along the river Meuse in the Netherlands and Belgium. The ‘t Veerke pedestrian ferry transports pedestrians and cyclists across the Meuse. The historic town of Thorn or Maastricht are two of the gorgeous places you can cycle to along the Meuse. The best thing about these cycle paths along the Meuse is that most of them are rural, so you stay well away from normal traffic.
The small village of Papenhoven has close links with the villages of Schipperskerk and Grevenbicht further south. Being enclosed by the Meuse, the Kingbeek stream, and Juliana canal, water is part of life in these villages. While hikers and cyclists are in for a treat in this area, you can also easily reach Born and enjoy ‘Kasteelpark Born’ (castle and zoo) or relax in the spa.
