In the picturesque village of Holset, in the southernmost part of the Netherlands, lies the holiday home Hoeve I gen Huuske. This attractive holiday home is surrounded by a large garden and meadows with chickens and horses. It is therefore the perfect place to unwind and enjoy country life. On arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by the Cruts family, who live in the other wing of the farmhouse.
Then and now
The farmhouse, which has been called "I gen Huuske" since the 15th century, has had many different owners in the past hundred years. This is partly due to the fact that the house was divided into three different sections with different house numbers. A few years ago, the entire farmhouse was taken over by the Cruts-Somers family, who have completely renovated the property and turned it into a home for themselves and an adjacent holiday home. The authentic style and the original half-timbering inside have remained intact.
Let's take a look inside
You will enter the holiday home like a real local through the back door. Then you will step into the large living kitchen that is equipped with all conveniences. The square dining table is ideal for extensive dining and after-dinner conversations with family and friends. You will then continue to the spacious living room. Here you will find comfy sofas and armchairs, as well as an old potbelly stove, which can be used in the same way as a regular wood-burning stove. On the ground floor you will also find a double bedroom, two separate toilets and two bathrooms. One of these bathrooms is quite luxurious and has a bath, large walk-in shower and washbasin.
The other bedrooms and bathrooms are located on the first and second floor. On the first floor, there is one triple bedroom (with a washbasin and a cot), one spacious double bedroom and one triple bedroom with an upstairs room. The latter has three single beds, two of which are in the upstairs room. On the first floor there is also a separate toilet and a bathroom with shower and washbasin. On the second floor you will find a cosy double bedroom with exposed wood.
Outdoor space
Guests of I gen Huuske can benefit from two terraces. The first terrace adjoins the private garden and offers a beautiful view over the rolling hills and meadows. In the afternoon and evening, you will usually have sun here. On the other terrace, located on the side of the house, you can enjoy the morning sun and a view of the vegetable garden and horses. Children can enjoy themselves in the garden. Here they can play basketball, soccer, jump on the trampoline, use the swing and much more.
The area
The holiday home is situated within walking distance of the centre of Holset, one of the oldest settlements in the Netherlands. After just a 200-metre walk, you will reach the church, which is surrounded by lively terraces. Would you rather go for a real walk? Then we recommend you walk to the Vijlenerbos forest, the “Drielandenpunt” tripoint or restaurant “Het Hijgend Hert”. If you are more of a cycling enthusiast, this is also the place to be. Starting from the farmhouse, you can take various cycling routes, including the route of the Amstel Gold Race and Limburgs Mooiste. Furthermore, you can take the car to go the nearby cities of Aachen, Liège or Maastricht, or to the amusement parks of Toverland and Phantasialand.
