Hoeve Lichtenberg has recently been completely renovated: now is your chance to come and enjoy this renovated holiday home!
Hoeve Lichtenberg is a stately complex situated in a unique location, namely on the Sint Pietersberg in Maastricht. This 10-person holiday home is therefore the perfect base for taking beautiful walks and cycling trips and discovering the capital of Limburg.
History of the property
Hoeve Lichtenberg is a corruption of the word 'Hoeve Lochtenborg', meaning 'high castle'. In fact, the farmstead has long been a castle. The oldest parts of this castle date back to the 12th century. The castle tower is even one of the oldest castle remains in the Netherlands. The castle was destroyed several times by fire and war, but the tower stood firm. In the 17th century, a closed square farmstead was built on the castle's foundations. Today, the residence of that farmstead forms holiday home Hoeve Lichtenberg, a property owned by Vereniging Natuurmonumenten.
Inside
You enter the square farmhouse through the impressive entrance gate. You can then enter the holiday home. You then enter the central hall from where you have access to the cosy living room, the kitchen, the dining room and a separate toilet. The robust, wooden kitchen with bluestone counter top is equipped with all conveniences. For example, there is a dishwasher, electric 4-burner cooker, large oven, microwave, tall fridge, coffee maker, kettle and full kitchen inventory. In the middle of the kitchen there is a kitchen island for extra work space but also for enjoying a glass of wine. From the kitchen, you can walk through to the living room with its cosy wood-burning stove. On the other side of the kitchen, you enter the dining room. Here you can dine together at the long dining table. The authentic wooden staircase takes you to the first floor, where you will find four double bedrooms, each with their own bathroom. The bedrooms have luxurious single box-spring beds.
On the second floor you will find the fairytale-like double tower room with four-poster bed and private bathroom.
Outside
As a guest of Hoeve Lichtenberg, you have a lovely terrace and an adjoining garden with a ping-pong table at your disposal. It might be tempting to spend all your time here, but we also recommend that you explore the special surroundings. After all, you are on a marl mountain with dozens of open marl and chalk quarries. Centuries of marl mining have created a unique flora and fauna in this marl landscape. You can also start various walking and cycling routes from the holiday home, such as the famous 492-km-long Pieterpad. Normally, the marl area can only be entered on foot or by bike, but guests of the holiday home get an exemption from the driving ban.
