Past and present
In the fourteenth century, an extraordinary castle and moat once stood where ‘Hoeve Hurpesch’ now stands. Klitserbeek stream, which flows past the farmstead, is a charming remnant of the past. In 2017, there was very little left of this castle. Nonetheless, Cecile and Bart decided to buy the listed building from its owner and restore it to its former glory. With the help of family and friends, they succeeded in restoring the old half-timbered sheds and transforming the ruin into a beautiful holiday home. All the rooms have been given their own unique style and ambiance and there are still plenty of authentic elements to admire.
Indoors
At the heart of the property is a beautiful, fully equipped kitchen-diner with large kitchen islands. For example, the kitchen has a jet-black ‘Lacanche’ range with gas burners, wok burner, plancha grill, and three ovens! The cooking studio is well equipped, with plenty of chopping boards, mixing bowls, a colander, a strainer, multiplane graters, grinder knives, a large Kitchen Aid, and more. There is a separate coffee and tea corner with Quooker. There is also a filter coffee machine, Nespresso coffee machine, espresso machine, and a milk frother. Alongside that, you can use the wood-fired pizza oven and the large barbecue on the terrace and pluck herbs from the herb garden. It’s nothing short of paradise for those who love to cook. Prepare a delicious meal together and dine at the wooden dining tables.
Besides this rustic cooking studio, the ground floor has a cosy living room with a wood-burning stove and flat-screen TV, a games room, a multifunctional room (not included but available for hire separately), a separate toilet, and two en-suite double bedrooms, one of which is wheelchair-accessible. The first floor, accessible via two staircases, has seven luxurious bedrooms and bathrooms. The luxury bath products provide a quintessential hotel experience! The second floor has another bedroom. The property has a total of 26 beds and two cots. The comfortable beds will be made up for you before you arrive. Kitchen towels, toilet paper, and rubbish bags will be provided.
Outdoors
At ‘Hoeve Hurpesch’ you can make use of the large inviting garden where you can relax, wander around, or pick fruit. Take in the view of the Vijlenerbos and the hamlet of Bommerig while soaking in the sun on the patio made from old ship’s planks. A lovely additional feature is the fruit orchard that grows at the front of the farmhouse. Here you will often see Farmer Hupperetz’ sheep grazing. Even more fun is the unique wellness zone that you can enjoy during your stay which features a Finnish sauna, outdoor shower, seating area, and fire pit (the wellness zone is shared with guests staying at ‘’t Bakhuisje’ holiday home.) Children can enjoy the trampoline, the playhouse with slide and swings, or the ping-pong table.
Workshops, breakfast, and pizza night
Cecile and Bart, who themselves live in the east wing of the farmhouse, offer various workshops and catering options to make your stay even more special. For example, they can arrange a sheep-herding workshop or a delicious breakfast and/or pizza night for you. Bart also provides business training and team-building activities, and often acts as a facilitator. Breakfast can be prepared for you by Cecile, who ran a B&B and living-room restaurant for many years. She uses high-quality, fresh produce from local business, such as meat from the pig farm Kuusj in Mechelen and cheeses and eggs from the farmer. A pizza night with antipasti, salad, pizzas, and mini dessert is sure to guarantee a fantastic evening. Bart and Cecile collaborate with local caterers for on-site dinners, cookery workshops, and buffets and would be happy to advise.
Please note
Due to its location in an area of tranquillity, this holiday home is not suitable for student parties, hen or stag parties, or other drinking parties. It is therefore not permitted to play loud music or make lots of noise outside without prior consultation. It is particularly important to maintain peace and quiet after 10 PM.
Tip:If you’re looking for accommodation for a larger group, it is also possible to book ‘Hoeve Hurpesch’ together with the adjacent holiday home ‘Bakhuisje van vrouw Holle’. Combined, the properties ‘Hoeve Hurpesch’ & ‘’t Bakhuisje’ can accommodate 30 people (+ four babies). The advantage of booking the combined accommodation is that there will be no other guests staying on site. If you want to hire the farmstead for a small party or specific celebration, you need to book ‘’t Bakhuisje’ too to ensure that there will be no other guests on the site.
In addition, it is only possible to organize a party such as a wedding with garden ceremony on request, and this will be subject to different rental prices. Please contact us for an offer tailored to your wishes!
