No. 75 is a charming four-person holiday home located in the centre of the picturesque village of Mechelen. This unique property, situated on Hoofdstraat, is centrally located and is the perfect base for exploring South Limburg. The many walking and cycling routes start nearby – or right on your doorstep. After a pleasant walk you can relax in one of the many quaint cafés and restaurants, all within walking distance of the property. No.75 has been lovingly renovated and is now a beautiful, bright, and cosy holiday home.
Then and now
The characteristic building dates back to 1800 and was originally a half-timbered house in typical Limburg style. Years later, a façade made from traditional Dutch bricks was added, but the authentic half-timbered elements are still visible inside. In 2020, the current owners, Diana and Harold, bought the property, which was completely derelict and had been empty for 20 years. After many hours of hard work, they completely renovated every last nook and cranny of the house, restoring the beautiful façade to its former glory.
Interior
The entrance to this lovely holiday home is through the spacious hall. The clever use of different materials creates a lovely ambience. From the hall you enter the living area, which has a comfortable lounge and adjacent dining area, separated by the exposed authentic wooden beam construction. The half-open kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, fridge, oven, and five-burner gas hob. Upstairs there are two bedrooms and a modern bathroom. The master bedroom has box spring beds, and the second bedroom has two single beds. The separate bathroom has a walk-in shower, washbasin, and toilet. Upstairs there is a loft accessible via a stepladder; here there is an extra sleeping place (on two separate mattresses) for up to 2 children.
Outside area
Access to the small terrace at the rear of the house is through the kitchen. The outside area is small but charming. The terrace has a small covered area where you can relax on the sofa and enjoy a cup of coffee or a nice glass of wine – even if it’s raining. The garden also has outdoor furniture so you can have breakfast or dinner al fresco. There is also a seating area at the front of the house overlooking Hoofdstraat.
Surroundings
As mentioned above, holiday home No. 75 is located in the centre of Mechelen, which offers several advantages; the bus to cities such as Maastricht and Aachen stops almost in front of the door, and the bakery and butcher are just around the corner. The small village shop is just a two-minute walk away, so you have everything you need for a relaxing holiday. With all the nature reserves, rolling hills, and the rippling water of the river Geul within walking distance, holiday home No.75 is the perfect place to enjoy all the beauty that South Limburg has to offer.
