The attractive 8-person holiday home Bovenste Molen is located between the picturesque villages of Epen and Mechelen. This is the perfect starting point to explore South Limburg and its beautiful hilly landscape.
History of the property
The history of the property goes back to 1350, when a grain mill was built here. This grain mill was in use until the beginning of the 18th century. Later on, the mill turned into a paper mill, artificial wool mill and corn mill. In 1975, the foundation “Molenstichting Limburg” decided to restore the entire mill complex including the whitewashed stone building of the former paper mill, the characteristic factory building, the former family home and several half-timbered barns. The owner of the mill died three months before the restoration was completed, which caused uncertainty about the future of the mill. However, in 1979, the nature conservation organization called “Vereniging Natuurmonumenten” decided to buy the mill complex and complete the restoration. The mill has regained its historic charm and currently comprises a family home and a holiday home.
