In the village centre of Reijmerstok stands an authentic half-timbered house full of character, the Reijmerstok Huis. This special holiday home, which has five bedrooms and four bathrooms, can sleep sixteen guests.
Then and now
Reijmerstok Huis is a grand property that was built in the first half of the 19th century. Owner and architect Boudewijn Laugs started the restoration and renovation of the building in 1973. During this process he retained as much of the character and layout as possible. He did add a number of surprise elements though. Also, he transformed the former barn into a kitchen/dining room and he created lots of rustic nooks and crannies. The many windows and the height difference between the former house and the former stable area create a playful effect. After the renovation, Boudewijn lived in the Reijmerstok Huis himself for a while. Then later on he chose to open it up as a holiday home.
Let’s take a look inside
Via the gate you enter the enclosed courtyard. This is where you’ll find the entrance to the house. You enter into a hall with various staircases. Where shall we start our exploration of Reijmerstok Huis? On your left are two living rooms. Thanks to their wooden half-timbering and small authentic windows, both have a lot of character. In the front living room you will find an attractive sitting area with a fireplace and colourful collection of paintings. The living room at the back has a small table where you can, for example, play board games, and a cosy sitting area by the wood-burning stove and TV.
From the living room you walk through into the characteristic farmhouse kitchen. This kitchen has a 5-burner gas hob, combi microwave, dishwasher, freezer, two fridges and everything you need to cook for the whole group. While cooking, you can chat and enjoy a glass of wine at the wooden kitchen island. You can also open the patio doors for a lovely breeze. Adjacent to the open kitchen is a long 18-person dining table and an attractive sitting area with a Moroccan-style lounge sofa. On the ground floor there is also an infrared sauna for three people, accessible toilet, bathroom and extra shower facilities.
Next, we head on up to the first floor. Here you will find a double bedroom, a triple bedroom and a bathroom with double washbasin, shower and toilet. There is also an extra single bed on the mezzanine level. On the second floor there is a large six-person bedroom with a cosy sitting area, a washbasin and flexible partitions and curtains that ensure everyone has enough privacy. Also on the second floor is a spacious bedroom with a single box-bed and three normal single beds. From this bedroom you can walk through into the last bedroom, an attractive six-person room with sitting area and private bathroom (with shower, washbasin and toilet).
Outdoor space
The property has a private patio adjacent to the kitchen, facing south-west, which is surrounded by natural vegetation. Garden furniture is available, so that all guests can eat outside together. The property also has a private courtyard at the front, where you can enjoy the sunshine in the morning and afternoon.
Please note!
Due to the many stairs and height differences, this holiday home is not suitable for guests with mobility problems.
