In the picturesque village of Schinnen, you will find our 16-person holiday home ‘Fabritiushuis’, which was completely renovated in 2022. This beautiful holiday home is part of a quadrangular farm from the 16th century, making it one of the oldest listed buildings in Schinnen. Its location, nestled in the open fields, completes the spectacular look and feel.
History
The 16th-century, quadrangular farmstead is notable for its rich architectural style, the typical stepped and bell gables, and the high wall on the street side. The farmhouse was maintained until shortly after the Second World War, when it became uninhabitable due to mining damage. Having been abandoned for over 30 years, the derelict property was purchased by the Goessens family. After years of restoration work, the two houses are now inhabited by the two sons, Ron and Fer Goessens, and their families. The barn that once served as a pigsty and hay shed has now been completely converted into this beautiful holiday home. The property is located in the hamlet of Wolfhagen, the origin of the first gangs of 18th-century ‘Buckriders’ and place of their rituals.
Inside
Once you have parked in the car park, you can access the holiday home via the adjoining garden. You then enter the hall, which leads onto the kitchen-diner with a long dining table – perfect for eating together or enjoying a glass of wine while you cook. The kitchen has a kitchen island, two 4-ring induction hobs, two dishwashers, two refrigerators with freezer compartments, two microwave ovens, and tea and coffee-making facilities. The kitchen is connected to the adjacent sitting area, warmly decorated in light colours and with natural materials.
The ground floor has two wheelchair-accessible, double bedrooms, each with its own en-suite with walk-in rain shower, sink, and toilet.
The stairs to the first-floor landing lead to the other bedrooms: four double bedrooms with en-suite and two double children’s bedrooms with a shared bathroom. All bathrooms are equipped with a walk-in rain shower, a sink, and a toilet. Only the shared bathroom does not have a toilet. However, there is a separate toilet on the first floor.
Outside
The front door and the large glass front lead onto the garden and terrace – the perfect place to enjoy a delicious snack, drink, and lots of time together.
