In a quiet area in the hamlet of Cottessen, between Epen and Vijlen, you’ll find this centuries-old half-timbered farmhouse along a sunken road. The home’s owners converted this property in 2020 into two four-person holiday homes – ‘t Boerenhuis and De Loft – while retaining its period character. The left-hand side of the property has been transformed into a four-person holiday home Het Gele Huis - De Loft, which used to be the farm stables. Inside De Loft you can feel the unique ambiance of an authentic half-timbered house while, outside, you can relax in the beautiful garden or set off along the footpaths that you can join from the driveway. It’s a true gem in Limburg!
Indoors
Enter the house by crossing the private patio and going through the tall glass doors, at house number 4B. As soon as you step inside you’ll find yourself in a spacious open hallway where you can see the impressive loft on the first floor and the large kitchen-diner on the ground floor. Go through the hall to access the bathroom with rain shower, washbasin, and toilet. The kitchen-diner has a large dining table with a beautiful view across the garden and a glimpse of the Belgian village of Sippenaeken. The kitchen provides all the kitchen essentials as well as a Nespresso machine. A comfortable sitting area has been created so that you can stay and chat in the kitchen after a walk or a delicious meal.
The antique open staircase takes you to a beautiful high loft that gives you a feeling of space and openness while retaining an element of cosiness. Positioned around the TV is the sitting area with a comfortable sofa and large leather armchair. A couple of steps takes you up to the mezzanine where you can sleep. The first bedroom is separated from the sitting area by a low wall but is otherwise completely open to maintain the loft’s unique character. From this bedroom you can access the cosy second bedroom . As you lie on the bed you have a view of the listed half-timbered farmhouse nearby.
Outdoors
At the front of De Loft, next to the entrance, is a private patio with a large table. On the patio you have a spectacular view of the hilly Limburg countryside. There is also a patio with comfortable lounge chairs and at the rear, near the kitchen, is a covered patio with a wooden bench from where you can look across the garden. In the garden there is a large trampoline and several seats and picnic tables that are shared with the adjoining holiday home ‘t Boerenhuis. The garden is large enough to enjoy with your own group in peace and quiet. Around the property is a huge communal garden with a fruit orchard where you may pick your own apples, pears, or plums when in season.
Want to come with more people?
Next to the De Loft holiday home is 't Boerenhuis. Het Gele Huis can be rented in its entirety for groups of up to eight people. You will then have the use of two four-person homes, without a connecting door, but with the possibility of dining together as a group of eight in De Loft or in the garden. This means that you can go on holiday together and enjoy one another’s company while still retaining some privacy.
