In a quiet area in the hamlet of Cottessen, between Epen and Vijlen, you’ll find this centuries-old half-timbered farmhouse along a sunken road. The home’s owners converted this property in 2020 into two four-person homes 't Boerenhuis and De Loft while retaining its period character. The right-hand side of the property has been transformed into the four-person holiday home Het Gele Huis - ‘t Boerenhuis, which was formerly a private residence. The left-hand side of the property has been transformed into a four-person holiday home Het Gele Huis - De Loft, which used to be the farm stables. Inside these cosy homes you can feel the unique ambiance of an authentic half-timbered house while outside you can relax in the beautiful garden or set off along the footpaths that you can join from the driveway. It’s a true gem in Limburg!
Two separate holiday homes under one roof: It is possible to rent both houses of Het Gele Huis in its entirety for groups of up to eight people. You will then have the use of two four-person homes, separated from one another, but with the possibility of dining together at the large table as a group of eight in De Loft or in the garden. This means that you can go on holiday together and enjoy one another’s company while still retaining some privacy.
Inside Het Gele Huis - 't Boerenhuis:
As soon as you step inside house number 4A, you enter a small hallway which has a separate toilet. From the hallway you have direct access to the dining room. This incredibly cosy room has a wood burner to help you get warm again while you relax in one of the armchairs after a long walk.
From the dining room you can walk through to the sitting room where there is a well-stocked bookcase that is available for your use. Enjoy a few drinks together or watch TV while relaxing on the sofa and love seat.
From the dining room, you can also walk through to the spacious kitchen which offers a complete kitchen inventory as well as a Nespresso machine.
Climb the stairs to reach the spacious landing with a large linen cupboard. On this floor are two bedrooms that sleep two people each, both offering a spectacular view.
The large-sized bathroom has a rain shower, washbasin, and toilet. A camping cot and high chair are also available in the property. The camping cot can be set up in the large bedroom or on the spacious landing.
Inside Het Gele Huis - De Loft:
Enter the house by crossing the private patio and going through the tall glass doors, at house number 4B. As soon as you step inside you’ll find yourself in a spacious open hallway where you can see the impressive loft on the first floor and the stylish kitchen-diner on the ground floor. Go through the hall to access the bathroom with rain shower, washbasin, and toilet.
The kitchen-diner has a large dining table with a beautiful view across the garden and a glimpse of the Belgian village of Sippenaeken. The kitchen provides all the kitchen essentials as well as a Nespresso machine. A comfortable sitting area has been created so that you can stay and chat in the kitchen after a walk or a delicious meal.
The antique open staircase takes you to a beautiful high loft that gives you a feeling of space and openness while retaining an element of cosiness. Positioned around the TV is the sitting area with a comfortable sofa and large leather armchair.
A couple of steps takes you up to the mezzanine where you can sleep. The first bedroom is separated from the sitting area by a low wall but is otherwise completely open to maintain the loft’s unique character.
From this bedroom you can access the cosy second bedroom. As you lie on the bed you have a view of the listed half-timbered farmhouse nearby.
Outdoors
Around the holiday homes is a huge communal garden with a fruit orchard where you may pick your own apples, pears, or plums when in season.
In the garden there is a large trampoline for children to play on. If you want to have a picnic or enjoy the peace and quiet, you can make use of one of the chairs or picnic tables that can be found in this shared garden.
