Nestled at the end of a quiet street in the charming village of Wijlre (near the Brand Beer Brewery) lies one of the most well-known, authentic water mills in South Limburg, featuring two holiday homes: "De Graanschuur" for 9 people and "het Bakhuis" for 4 people. The water mill dates back to 1776 and serves for generating electricity and occasionally grinding grain. A unique location where the holiday vibe will embrace you instantly, and the owners, Bianca and Jo, will warmly welcome you. The exceptional setting, with the village center within walking distance, hiking trails right next door, and the babbling Geul River in the backyard, makes this a perfect stay in South Limburg!
Inside
De Graanschuur is located in the side wing of the mill complex with the entrance on the courtyard. On the ground floor, you'll find the living room, designed to be a delightful place to relax with a good book or watch a movie. Additionally, there is a double bedroom and a separate bathroom on the ground floor. Through the hallway, you then reach the first floor, where the heart of the holiday home is located: the delightful living kitchen. In the spacious, fully-equipped kitchen, you can prepare a Burgundian dinner or bake your own rolls in the morning. If you want the complete holiday feel, the bakery is a 3-minute walk away for fresh bread and Limburgse vlaai! The long dining table with corner bench and a view through the window on the Geul and the Heuvellandschap invite you to long evenings of conviviality. Besides the living kitchen, there is a separate toilet and bathroom with a shower and sink on this floor. The other bedrooms and a separate bathroom are on the second floor.
Outside & Environment
In good weather, you can enjoy your own terrace on the courtyard of the mill complex. Using flower boxes and large umbrellas, the terrace is shielded from the courtyard. You'll find it to be a delightful cozy spot where Limburg hospitality takes center stage. Additionally, there is a communal seating area on the side of the mill with a direct view of the Geul: a picturesque scene! We also recommend exploring the beautiful surroundings! Right from the mill, you can easily access hiking trails to explore the most beautiful routes through the rolling Heuvelland. Furthermore, Valkenburg aan de Geul and Gulpen are within walking or cycling distance. In Wijlre, there is a supermarket, bakery, fresh fruit and vegetable vendor with regional products, and a few cafes and brasseries. In short, plenty of opportunities to fully enjoy all the beauty that South Limburg has to offer!
