The 14-person holiday home Wittemer Molen, located on the Wittemer Allee (the main road), is situated in the picturesque little village of Wittem. This original water mill from 1836 is another beautiful building belonging to the Limburg Landscape Foundation. The wooden grinder was placed on the ground floor to ensure that flour could still be milled when the weather was bad in winter. Above the grinder, on the first and second floor, there is now a luxuriously furnished holiday home with a warm, authentic feel.
Let’s take a look inside
When you enter this stunning national monument, you find yourself in a large hall. The wooden staircase will take you to the first floor where you’ll find the living area. The high ceilings, velvet curtains and gigantic paintings make the living room feel very grand. Lots of small windows also let in plenty of natural light. The leather Chesterfield sofas and the lovely armchair create the perfect spot for relaxing by the wood-burning stove. From the living room you walk through into the equally light and spacious dining room where a collection of Delft blue plates adorns the wall. In the middle of the dining room is a long dining table where you can enjoy meals together. Enough reason to cook up a feast in the country kitchen which is equipped with all conveniences including a 6-burner gas hob with convection oven, microwave, large fridge-freezer, coffee machine, kettle and dishwasher.
De Wittemer Molen has six attractively furnished bedrooms and four unique bathrooms. On the first floor you will find a cosy double bedroom, a spacious quad room, a separate toilet and a large bathroom with shower, toilet and double washbasin. Before you go to the second floor, take a moment to admire the special landing. Here the gigantic, semicircular window offers beautiful views over the Sinselbeek river. There is also an old pulley with a thick rope running from the outside of the window frame to the wooden winch. The landing also has a cosy sitting area where you can get comfy with a good book. On the second floor there are four double bedrooms, two of which with ensuite bathroom, and also a separate bathroom with shower, washbasin and toilet.
Outdoor space
This holiday home may be very cosy inside, but remember to make use of the lovely outdoor space as well! At the rear of the home is a large, gravel terrace where you can enjoy the sun, nature, and gorgeous panoramas. There are no buildings to be seen for miles around – only grassland and tall poplars. Your only neighbours are the sheep grazing peacefully in the adjoining meadow. Simply put, it’s the ideal place to completely unwind. Children can play safely on the enclosed lawn, which also has a bench.
