In the Belgian hamlet of Montzen, just 10 kilometres from the Dutch border, there is a beautiful 12-person holiday home called Terheyden. This holiday home offers a lot of luxury, space and tranquillity; and is therefore the ideal place for a weekend away with friends and family.
Then and now
The holiday home is part of Terheyden castle farm, which has no fewer than 8 hectares of land and was named after the very first lord of the estate. The old coat of arms can still be admired in the paving outside the front door of the holiday home and in the left pillar of the fireplace. During the Middle Ages, the castle farm housed one of the most important courts of law in the region. Later it became a farm with pigs and cows. For the past decades, the farm has been owned by the family of Marie-Pierre. For a long time this family lived in the part of the building that was recently transformed into holiday home Terheyden. During the renovation, some of the authentic elements have been preserved. Nowadays, Marie-Pierre and Willy live in another part of the farm.
Arrival
This majestic holiday home can be reached via the driveway. As soon as you catch a glimpse of the stately building made of limestone and sandstone, you’ll understand why Terheyden is referred to as a castle farm. The entrance to the holiday home can be found to the right of the courtyard.
Let’s take a look inside
You enter into the hall where there is a separate toilet. From the hall you can walk through into the pantry and the kitchen, which is equipped with all conveniences including a 5-burner induction hob, large oven, microwave, fridge-freezer, coffee machine, Nespresso machine, kettle, toaster and dishwasher. Next to the kitchen is an attractive dining room with a large fireplace as the showpiece. Twelve people can enjoy long and relaxed meals at the handmade wooden dining table. From the dining room you can walk through into the original hall of the house. In this stately space with wooden beams and open staircase you will find, among other things, a few wooden crates filled with toys. From this hall you also have access to the attractive living room. This space with its blue stone floor has some special wallpaper that makes you feel like you’re in a forest.
As you go up to the first floor, you will find four unique, colourful bedrooms. All bedrooms are named after female relatives of the owner. Marceline is an elegant, bright bedroom with four single box-spring beds. This bedroom has an en-suite with shower and sink. Marie-Jeanne and Marie-Pierre are both double bedrooms with a double box-spring bed. These bedrooms also have an en-suite with shower and sink. Lastly, there is the quadruple room Françoise with four single box-spring beds. This bedroom has a bathroom with bath and sink on the mezzanine floor.
Outdoor space
Holiday home Terheyden has a private, covered terrace, a second terrace with lounge furniture, and a section of private garden with a view of the owners’ 8-hectare meadow. There’s plenty of room to sit and relax! Children can let off steam on the playing field, which has a football goal and basketball net.
